The Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka made the Decision on Temporary Organization of Operations of the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka in compliance with the prevailing measures instituted pursuant to the declaration of the COVID-19 epidemic.
The Museum has joined the campaign launched by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports and the Croatian Tourism Board, and obtained the “Safe Stay in Croatia” designation, which highlights it as a museum in which all health and safety protocols are enforced during the COVID-19 pandemic, making it a safe and desirable destination. EUROPEAN HERITAGE DAYS
EVENTS
THE MUSEUMS WE NEED
organizer: Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka
place, date and time: Museum’s garden, 8 October 2021, starting at 6 p.m.
The Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka is observing European Heritage Days by presenting the Civic Museum Council and the projects that it conducts as the Museum’s advisory and participatory body. It was established in 2019 with the aim of democratizing the museum, and it consists of five member associations. Through its activities, the Council contributes to public involvement in the proposal, conception and implementation of the Museum’s cultural programmes in line with the community’s interests and needs. In a series of its activities, the Civic Museum Council also approaches collection activities differently. In its public call under the slogan “How We Want to be Remembered”, in 2019 the Council began to share responsibility with the community for the selection of museum exponents from our everyday lives worth safeguarding for future generations. The first Civic Museum Collection in Croatia was thus created, and in 2021 it will be enlarged. Its latest acquisitions will be presented at this public event.

Based on the criteria for maintaining physical distance, a maximum of 10 workshop participants may be in the Marble Hall of the Governor’s Palace.
Educational programmes tied to the remote Museum locations will also be held in compliance with effective epidemiological measures, and any changes to the Museum’s work with visitors will be posted on its web pages and reported by the media.

EVENTS
RECOGNIZING ABSENCE
organizer: Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka
program partner: Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rijeka
The program is being financed by the Croatian Ministry of Culture and Media, Primorje-Gorski Kotar County and the Matulji Municipality, and it will take place in a public outdoor space in Lipa at the end of October 2021.
Since it was opened, the Lipa Remembers Memorial Centre has been dedicated to the memory of the 269 Lipa residents who lost their lives, while also serving as a constant reminder of the horrifying consequences of war and violation of fundamental human rights. Remembrance is nurtured in Lipa by involving individuals of various professions and approaches, so that contemplation of the arduous historical legacy always creates new values and meanings. An answer is always being sought to one question: How can the absence of the slain Lipa natives be made a part of our existence today? The program “Recognizing Absence” answers this question from the standpoint of contemporary art, and has done so for the fifth consecutive year.
At this year’s public call for temporary art projects in Lipa’s public space, seven proposals for site-specific works were received, among which the jury chose two for installation. In a work entitled “Aural Composition”, artist Ivo Vičić will create an audio “portrait” of the Lipa landscape. Taking flight from the language of literal presentation, he will examine the extent to which the mechanisms of traumatic reality are revealed in the sounds of contemporary Lipa as well as the extent to which the everyday and trivial may become a signifier of traumatic experience. Artist Marina Rajšić will set up a landscape installation called “Particles of Lipa”, in which the leaves from Lipa’s trees will be treated like symbols of Lipa’s identity and disseminated in Lipa’s outdoor space in an artistic gesture.
