Programs for schools – students during the “building” of thunderbolts

Thematic museum workshop for primary schools.
As part of the pedagogical activities of the Maritime and Historical Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka, in 2016 we started in the Museum Collection of Kastav region a program of thematic museum workshops for primary schools. It is a program that continues the programs of museum workshops called Čudotvornica that the Museum conducts in its main building in Rijeka.
Unlike a classic visit to a museum when students listen to a curator and look at an exhibition or a permanent display, workshops require students to be actively involved in the learning and work process, which increases the dynamics and thus the concentration of students. The problem with classic guiding, especially if it is a permanent exhibit, is the large amount of information that students receive when visiting a museum, which is burdensome and overwhelming for them. The workshops are designed to deal with only one topic, but from different aspects.

Workshop topics are related to museum activities and materials and local cultural heritage, building on or expanding the knowledge that students learn at school. Workshop activities are diverse, from conversation and discussion to some form of practical and creative work, and are based on the theoretical foundations of experiential learning and constructivism. Each workshop includes a tour of a part of the museum’s permanent exhibition, and if desired, after the workshop, the entire exhibition can be toured. Workshop topics listed below on this page.

One class can attend the workshop.

We agree on the topic, date and time of the event with the teachers, and it is possible to arrange them from Monday to Friday at a time that suits you best.

The workshops last two school hours. The price of the workshop is HRK 10 per participant and it includes all accessories and materials needed for its realization.

The activities of the workshops are photographically documented, and we will publish the photos, only if you obtain the consent of the parents or guardians of the workshop participants, in digital and printed museum publications for the purpose of promoting museum activities. You can download the consent form here
