The Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka is the caretaker of an immense inventory that is either on exhibit or stored in the former Governor’s Palace, and at several branch locations: the Kastav Regional Museum Collection, the Lipa Remembers Memorial Centre, the Ethnographic Collection of the Island of Krk and the Cickini Archaeological Collection, also on Krk.
Thanks to its diverse and substantial inventory, the educational programme methods allow for combinations of different spheres of learning, and the Museum’s participation in the curricula of educational institutions opens the way for direct work with historical sources. Participants thus learn about the importance and role of the cultural and historical heritage and the institutions that research, safeguard and present it. These programmes encourage the practical assimilation of knowledge, independent study and thought, and creative expression through individual and group work. Children thus become accustomed to new, interdisciplinary modes of learning.
The workshop programmes for kindergartens and schools have been planned in compliance with the National Framework Curriculum for Preschool Learning and Education and Mandatory General Primary and Secondary Schooling, so that they are a suitable and necessary supplement to preschool and school curricula.
