The Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka is a partner in the project E-VOKED (European Museums for Vocational Education) which is being implemented through the Erasmus+ programme, KA2 – Cooperation for Innovation and the Exchange of Good Practices, KA202 – Strategic Partnerships for Vocational Education and Training. The applicant and lead partner is the Hungarian Museum of Trade and Tourism (Magyar Kereskedelmi és Vendéglátóipari Múzeum). Other partners are the Maritime and History Museum of Croatian Littoral Rijeka, the Finnish Hotel and Restaurant Museum (Hotelli- ja ravintolamuseo), the Croatian Museum of Tourism, the Emilia-Romagna Association of Independent Centres for Professional Education (Associazione Emiliano-Romagnola di centri autonomi di formazione professionale, AECA), the Cyprus Food and Nutrition Museum (Μουσείο Κυπριακών Τροφίμων και Διατροφής), Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums (TWAM), and the Museums of Food from Parma (I Musei del Cibo della provincia di Parma).
The project’s objective is to exchange experience and develop common examples of good practices in museums for working with students from vocational schools and university departments of trade, tourism, maritime affairs, textiles and hospitality. The target groups in this project are museum professionals who work with adults and teenagers in VET (vocational education and training), and teachers and students in VET institutions.
The expected outputs of the project are:
• completed practical exchanges of knowledge, experience and best practices between European museum professionals
• increased capacity by museum professionals to implement special practical education methods for VET students
• developed examples of work with special interest groups – VET students training for individual vocations
• online booklet on best practices for VET in museums
The project activities consist of eight partner meetings and eight workshops with training organized by each of the project partners in their museum. In addition to a project manager, the workshops are attended by VET teachers with whom the partners collaborate in order to provide practical education for students. Other activities include presentation of the regional museum system and cultural institutions to local vocational schools, the creation of a project web site and a Facebook page, development of local cooperation strategies between museums and vocational schools, design and distribution of educational modules based on cultural heritage, the creation of online manuals for practical work in museums by vocational schools and university departments, activities aimed at international links in the field of vocational education and the exchange of best practices.
