EXHIBITION
BLOGGING ABOUT THE BLOG
organizer: Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka
conceived by: Denis Nepokoj
design: Vesna Rožman
educational programme: Iva Volović
set-up: Dino Marković, Darko Takalić
exhibition is open from 26 January to 31 March 2024
The exhibition Blogging About the Blog features a selection of texts that were posted on the Museum’s FB page and its Blog during 2023, as well as the items that were the subject of these FB and blog posts. These are texts that covered exponents from the Museum’s inventory and activities in a different, more leisurely fashion, adapted to an audience that does not necessarily consist of Museum patrons but are users of social media. Besides so-called museum stories, the texts are tied to important dates in Croatian history, current events in the world that can also be presented through the prism of the museum practices and heritage protection, but always with exponents from the museum’s collections. One post/one item conveys the wealth of materials held by the Museum, interesting museum stories and “behind the scenes” museum work.

EXHIBITION
THE CROATIAN TRAINING SHIP JADRAN – HOME PORT IN SPLIT, 1933–2023
organizers: Boka Navy 809 Croatian Confraternity, Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka, Croatian Maritime Museum in Split, Homeland War Museum in Split, ‘Croatian Jadran’ Steering Committee
conceived by: Ljubomir Radić, Matej Gabrilo
set up: Leo Garbin
opening: Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka on 8 February 2024 at 5:30 p.m.
The exhibition marks the passage of 90 years since the sail ship Jadran entered the port in Split. The Jadran, a barquentine, was the product of Croatian naval architectural expertise and tradition, constructed at the initiative of the Adriatic Guard from Split, one of the most important organisations in Croatian maritime history. From 1933 to 1990, the ship was exclusively linked to the maritime academies on the Croatian coast: Dubrovnik, Šibenik, Pula, Divulje and Split. Since the autumn of 1991, when the war in Croatia and the Serbian-Montenegrin aggression began, the vessel has been in Montenegrin hands. Since then, the Republic of Croatia has been trying to return the ship to Split, its home port.
The exhibition will feature photographs of the Jadran from the 1930s, from the beginnings of its construction in Hamburg through its first voyage to Split in 1933 to its journey around the world which concluded in 1939.
The exhibition will also display a model of the training ship Jadran from the collection of the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka.
