In cooperation with the Lado National Folk Dance Ensemble, the exhibition of photographs by Petra Slobodnjak, “Lado/Reliefs/Vestiges,” will be opened in the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka. Through this exhibition and the brief performance at the opening, the Lado Ensemble is continuing to mark the 70th anniversary of its artistic activities.
The exhibition “Lado/Reliefs/Vestiges” is the result of three-years of cooperation between this sole professional folklore ensemble and the award-winning, talented artist Petra Slobodnjak, who found in Lado’s performers a source of inspiration to create photographs that testify to traditional performing arts at the very highest artistic level.
“The title ‘Lado/Reliefs/Vestiges’ encapsulates the complexity, multiple layers and intermingling of meanings entailed by folkloristic expression; it is divided into zones in an attempt to observe the traditional distinctions of folk music and dances by region. The photographs of performers are juxtaposed with landscape photographs of the places in which these dances originated,” says exhibition creator Petra Slobodnjak.
The exhibition will run until 8 May 2019
