Through the window of the Governor’s Palace

The exhibition/permanent display portrays the tumultuous political history of Rijeka from the establishment of the Rijeka Governorship at the end of the 18th century to the mid-20th century.

With the help of the museum exhibits and information on a touchscreen, learn why and when the Governorship was established, who Rijeka’s governors were, what kind of relationship Rijeka had with the Habsburgs and how Rijeka was annexed to the Kingdom of Italy.

The other part of the permanent display presents a cross-section of the social lives of Rijeka’s rich and powerful in the 19th century.

The exhibition extends through the characteristic salons on the first floor of the palace in which the city’s turbulent history was written.
