EXHIBITION
REMEMBER ME
organizers: Croatian Restoration Institute, Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka
exhibition conceived by: Andrej Janeš, Ph.D. (CRI) and Jasna Ujčić Grudenić (PPMHP)
exhibition opening: 28 July 2023 at 6 p.m.
the exhibition will remain open until 30 October 2023

Ahead of the Feast of the Assumption of Mary, an exhibition in our museum’s Grand Atrium will present devotional objects held in the museum’s Archaeology Department which were gathered during archaeological excavations around parish churches in Rijeka and Mošćenice.
Devotional objects are those which encourage and spread piety and evoke religious mysteries. These include small medals, medallions, crosses, talismans and rosaries that were particularly popular in the 17th and 18th centuries. Among them the most numerous are the small medals bearing images of Jesus or Mary, various saints, sacred objects or places.
The small medals from Rijeka and Trsat are particularly intriguing because it is believed that they were crafted in local workshops.

EXHIBITION
BURIAL RITES AND CUSTOMS OF ANCIENT ROME
organizer: Zadar Archaeological Museum
co-organizer: Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka
exhibition conceived by: Kornelia A. Giunio, Timka Alihodžić
exhibition remains open until 30 October 2023

Over 400 exponents are on display in the exhibition: from miniscule jewellery forms to structural components of graves. The social and spiritual traits of the population in the Zadar area from the 1st to 4th centuries can be understood through the prism of grave goods.
The exhibition will be accompanied by thematic lectures for the public and workshops for children.

EXHIBITION
MRGARI – BAŠKA’S STONE FLOWERS
organizers: Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka, Sinjali Association, Tourism Board of the Baška Municipality in cooperation with the Archaeological Museum in Zagreb
photographer: Sanjin Ilić
the exhibition will remain open until 20 July 2023

Mrgari are the loveliest example of the ancient wall construction technique of stacking stones without any kind of binding material. These multi-pen sheep folds with a layout resembling giant stone flowers dominate the karst landscape on the plateaus above the Baška Valley.
The exhibition will be enhanced with new photographs of mrgari, as well as photographs from the Ljubimer mrgari restoration workshops.
About the artist
Sanjin Ilić was born in Rijeka in 1967. He has family roots in Jurandvor, next to Baška. For roughly twenty years he has attempted to convey his fascination with the austere beauty of the Baška plateau through photographs.
