‘Mountain of Culture’ is a project that links cultural institutions that foster the same or similar values and which, each in its own way, deals with heritage – cultural, cultural-historical, natural, archival, literary, theatrical or musical – or with the restoration of the movable and stationary heritage. Through the synergy of all participants, the project’s goal is to offer themes and events to Rijeka residents and all lovers of culture that will occasionally – in search of new audiences – depart from comfort zones by bringing together the apparently incompatible in order to contribute to a more active perception of culture, underscoring its meaning in everyday life and doing something to make heritage and care for it a part of the lifestyle of our fellow citizens.
In just over a month through twenty-five different programmes aimed at audiences of varying interests, aptitudes and ages, the hill that is home to the Governor’s Palace – the museum and its garden – will become a place of meetings, fun, interactions, companionship and learning from one another, a place to gain new experiences that will reinforce old friendships and create new ones, where heritage will be presented in a novel, leisurely and playful way.
Exhibitions and dance, performances and lectures, guided tours and children’s workshops and much more will highlight the accessibility of heritage and its significance, as well as the need to appreciate and preserve heritage as invaluable evidence of our own identity.
