Through its 386 pages and several hundred illustrations, drawings and engravings, Svein Mønnesland’s book presents Istria, the Kvarner islands and the Croatian Littoral from the 15th century to the eve of the First World War, viewed through the eyes of foreigners – the most prominent European architects, artists, historians and politicians.
The book is bilingual, Croatian-English, with many previously unknown illustrations.
Svein Mønnesland (1943) is an emeritus professor of Slavic linguistics at the University of Oslo and a member of the Norwegian Academy of Science. He is the author of several books on topics tied to the former Yugoslav territories, including, among others, the monograph Dalmatia Through Foreign Eyes.
