At a time when strategies to fight hunger and its existence are being devised at the global level, the creators of this exhibition raise awareness of the very concept of hunger, primarily imposed, but also self-imposed.
\nThe theme of hunger is examined not only through history, rather particular emphasis is accorded to the struggle against hunger in the modern day. Even though the focus is on Croatia, the theme will also be presented to visitors in the broader context of world hunger.
\nWe have become aware of hunger as a fact during the crises which beset the world, such as the pandemic and lockdowns, and in Croatia there were also the earthquakes in Zagreb and its vicinity and in Sisak-Moslavina County (in Pertrinja, Sisak and Glina). The war in Ukraine also altered the economic picture in both Europe and the wider world and impacted the distribution of food and its availability.
\nThe exhibition\u2019s creators approached the theme of hunger from three aspects: the struggle against hunger, famine as a political tool and the relationship between hunger and the body, and the objective of the exhibition \u201cFaces of Hunger\u201d and the accompanying activities is to raise awareness of the problem of hunger as well as nutritional disorders.<\/p>\n

\nTOUCH THE WORLD<\/strong>

The exhibition \u2013 organized to mark the 75th anniversary of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County Association of the Blind \u2013 will present aids for the blind and visually impaired which the Association of the Blind donated to the Museum for the occasion. Besides these aids, the exhibition will also display the handicrafts and artworks made by the Association\u2019s members during the Creative Workshop led by Mirjana Marin, as well as works by artist Emil Mandari\u0107, the Association\u2019s president and long-time Museum collaborator.
\nThe exhibition\u2019s aim is to raise the public\u2019s awareness of the needs of blind persons in everyday life and present the ways in which the blind can meet their everyday needs, educating themselves and participating in various aspects of social life with the help of aids. Today most of these aids have been replaced by the use of contemporary technologies on computers and smart phones, so the exhibited items constitute an intriguing part of the tiphlotechnological heritage.
\nThe items donated to the Museum reflect the development of various aids which enabled blind persons to perform activities that are often taken for granted. So the exhibition features aids for manual and machine writing in Braille, computing, weighing, measuring lengths, listening to audio recordings or telling time. Valuable examples of pocket and wrist watches for the blind are also displayed, as well as a collection of white canes which the blind used for general mobility. There are also board game sets adapted to the blind and photographs of blind persons participating in various sporting competitions.
\nThe exhibited items serve as testimony about the users of these aids, the blind persons from our region whose life stories testify to the significance of the Association of the Blind for the past 75 years.
\nThe exhibition was co-financed by the Croatian Ministry of Culture, the City of Rijeka and Primorje-Gorski Kotar County.<\/p>\n

WORKSHOP<\/strong>
\nCULTURE FOR ALL: INCLUSIVE CULTURAL PRACTICE GUIDELINES FOR THE SEEING-IMPAIRED<\/strong>

\nlocation, date and time: Museum\u2019s Marble Hall, 25 April at 1:30 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A workshop to accompany the exhibition \u201cTouch the World\u201d will be organized on the theme of developing inclusive cultural practices for the visually impaired. Raising public awareness of the problems of blind and visually impaired visitors through the workshop will be done by presenting examples of inclusive practices such as demonstrating adaptations of space, content and communication. The workshop has been organized as an activity encompassed by the \u201cCulture for All\u201d project, with funding from the Impact4Values programme and the NGO Office, which is aimed at increasing awareness of the importance of inclusion and expansion of inclusive activities and content in culture.<\/p>\n

MIRACLE ROOM<\/strong>
\nThe workshops for young creators are held in the Miracle Room at the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka and in the Museum\u2019s garden. Educational programmes are also being held at the remote collections.<\/p>\n

PROGRAMME<\/strong>
\nBIRTHDAY IN THE MUSEUM<\/strong>
\nEducational birthday workshops in the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka are aimed at children aged 4 to 12. The workshops are thematic, and the celebrants can choose from six available themes: \u2018Masquerade Ball,\u2019 \u2018The Trsat Dragon,\u2019 \u2018On-board Emergency,\u2019 \u2018Unusual Form,\u2019 \u2018Challenge Trail,\u2019 and \u2018Treasure Hunt.\u2019
\nThe programme will proceed in the Museum\u2019s premises. Must be arranged in advance.<\/p>\n

MIRACLE ROOM ON THE ROAD<\/strong>
\nMiracle Room on the Road is intended for children from distant schools, so that they can more easily participate in educational and creative programmes tied to the Museum\u2019s inventory and content, as well as segments of the local cultural and historical heritage.<\/p>\n
