\nMRGARI \u2013 BA\u0160KA\u2019S STONE FLOWERS<\/strong>

After successful guest appearances in Zagreb, Budapest and Split, at the initiative and with the support of the Archaeological Museum in Zagreb, the exhibition \u201cMrgari \u2013 Ba\u0161ka\u2019s Stone Flowers\u201d will now be held in Rijeka.
\nMrgari are the loveliest example of the wall construction technique of stacking stones without any kind of binding material. These multi-pen sheep folds with a layout resembling giant stone flowers dominate the karst landscape on the plateaus above the Ba\u0161ka Valley. They are constantly exposed to harsh winds, the sun and sea salt, but their timeless beauty inspires awe, as well as care for their protection and preservation.<\/p>\n

So this exhibition, as one of the means to popularize the mrgari and all activities conducted by the Sinjali Association in collaboration with the Ba\u0161ka Municipal Tourism Board with the financial support of the Ba\u0161ka Municipality, is a continuation of efforts tied to the preservation of these exceptionally rare stacked stone structures.
\nThe Rijeka exhibition will be enhanced with new photographs of mrgari, as well as photographs from the Ljubimer mrgari restoration workshops.
\nA video about the mrgari will also be presented, as well as a compilation of video recordings from past workshops and archival video footage of sheep penning. Ethnographic artefacts from the Ba\u0161ka Valley will also be exhibited.<\/p>\n

About the artist
\nSanjin Ili\u0107 was born in Rijeka in 1967. He has family roots in Jurandvor, next to Ba\u0161ka, so he carries in his genes a connection to the dominant landscape above the Ba\u0161ka Valley. He passionately and tirelessly recorded all of its moods through the lens of his camera. For roughly twenty years he has attempted to convey his fascination with the austere beauty of the Ba\u0161ka plateau. The photographer\u2019s eye not only records the objective reality of stone forms, but also deliberately compiles poetic pictures of the relief created by the interplay of light and shadow, stone and the sea.<\/p>\n

The exhibition \u201cChildhood Behind the Iron Curtain\u201d takes us back to the 1970s and 1980s and halts at the brink of our childhood world\u2019s collapse, a time of \u201cgreat longing\u201d for the material goods from the other side of the \u201ccurtain.\u201d This exhibition is about children, who grew up under the sway of Josip Broz Tito\u2019s cult of personality, but also under the influence of Western European and American heroes from comics, cartoons and movies.<\/p>\n

MIRACLE ROOM<\/strong>
\nThe workshops for young creators are held in the Miracle Room at the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka and in the Museum\u2019s garden. Educational programmes are also being held at the remote collections.<\/p>\n

28TH EDUCATIONAL MUSEUM ACTION<\/strong>
\ntheme: ALL FOR ONE: EVERYONE FOR THE MUSEUM
\nscheduled dates: from 20 April to 19 May 2023<\/p>\n

Organized by the Croatian Museum Association\u2019s Museum Education and Cultural Campaigns Section to mark International Museum Day, this year the Educational Museum Action will again be held, and the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka will participate with the \u201cOur Museum\u201d programme.
\nThis is actually a series of programmes that are already being implemented, in which our visitors are the creators of museum content. New collaborative workshops will be held in conjunction with this.
\nThe programme is intended for participants in a variety of age groups: from preschool children, through primary and secondary pupils to university students and adults, and particularly members of NGOs who participate in the Civic Museum Council. Participants create museum content such as exhibitions, lectures or guided tours of exhibitions by using digital technologies, interpretive guidance and workshops for various groups of visitors.<\/p>\n

\u201cFlowers Made of Stone\u201d is a workshop dedicated to mrgari, the fascinating stone sheep folds made in the shape of flowers by the stacked stone technique. Mrgari are a specific feature of Ba\u0161ka and the former lifestyle of people in the area, as shown by the exhibition which served as the inspiration for this workshop. Through various creative activities, workshop participants will learn about mrgari, the stacked stone technique, shepherds and sheep and how to preserve the tangible and intangible heritage.<\/p>\n

BIRTHDAY IN THE MUSEUM<\/strong>
\nEducational birthday workshops in the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka are aimed at children aged 4 to 12. The workshops are thematic, and the celebrants can choose from six available themes: \u2018Masquerade Ball,\u2019 \u2018The Trsat Dragon,\u2019 \u2018On-board Emergency,\u2019 \u2018Unusual Form,\u2019 \u2018Challenge Trail,\u2019 and \u2018Treasure Hunt.\u2019
\nThe programme will proceed in the Museum\u2019s premises. Must be arranged in advance.<\/p>\n

MIRACLE ROOM ON THE ROAD<\/strong>
\nMiracle Room on the Road is intended for children from distant schools, so that they can more easily participate in educational and creative programmes tied to the Museum\u2019s inventory and content, as well as segments of the local cultural and historical heritage.<\/p>\n

KASTAV REGIONAL MUSEUM COLLECTION<\/strong>

The Kastav Regional Museum Collection, a branch of the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka, is re-opening its doors to visitors after renovation. The history of Kastav and the wider environs (Kastav\u0161tina) is presented in the permanent display in three thematic units: The Origin of Kastav, Culture and Education in Kastav\u0161tina, and Life on the Border.
\nThe exhibition \u201cFrom the Museum\u2019s Time Machine\u201d is installed in the foyer, presenting the Collection\u2019s first opening in 1981.<\/p>\n
