\nPUBLIC CALL FOR TEMPORARY ART PROJECTS IN PUBLIC SPACE entitled RECOGNITION OF ABSENCE<\/strong>
\nApplication deadline: 30\/08\/22<\/p>\n

DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAM:
\nThe Lipa Remembers Memorial Center was opened in 2015 as a regional unit of the Rijeka Maritime and Historical Museum of the Croatian Littoral. The center is dedicated to commemorating the suffering that happened in Lipa on April 30, 1944, when the Nazis and fascists killed 269 locals, mostly women, children and the elderly, and burned the entire place. In addition to developing a culture of remembrance at the national and international level, the Center is directed towards communicating the anti-war message and spreading the universal appeal of conscience. A necessary prerequisite for all that has been mentioned is knowing the extent of the loss and thinking about the following questions: How to outline the emptiness that followed the suffering? How can we make the absence of the victims of Lipjan a part of our existence today? How to understand the unimaginable and show what cannot be shown? We find the answers to the questions raised in the fifth consecutive series of artistic interventions in the public space of Lipa called “Recognition of Absence”.
\nLiteral depiction of violence and suffering should be avoided. Starting from the assumption that by expanding the boundaries of art, we also expand the boundaries of knowledge, priority will be given to proposals that affirm experimental and intermediate artistic practices. At the same time, proposals are invited that will explore the reach of social influence that contemporary artistic practice has today – especially in relation to the understanding of difficult categories (trauma, suffering, genocide) and in relation to raising awareness and advocating desirable patterns of behavior. Achieving a social impact can also be achieved with a direct approach, through artistic projects based on social inclusion (community art) and cooperation with the local community. Finally, proposals are invited that will contribute to awareness of the symbolic potential of Lipa in contemporary peace-building processes.<\/p>\n

Applications will be considered by a four-member jury: Ksenija Orelj, senior curator of the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art from Rijeka; Lillian Sto\u0161i\u0107, acting heads of the Conservation Department in Rijeka; Nikolina Radi\u0107 \u0160tivi\u0107, director of the Maritime and Historical Museum of the Croatian Coast in Rijeka, and Petra Ma\u0161trovi\u0107 Ku\u0161i\u0107, curator of the Lipa Pamti Memorial Center.<\/p>\n

This year the jury will SELECT UP TO TWO WORKS among the applications received.
\nDEADLINE FOR REGISTRATION
\nThe call is open UNTIL AUGUST 30, 2022.
\nNotification of the accepted proposal will be published by mid-September 2022 on the website of the Lipa Remembers Memorial Center, http:\/\/lipapamti.ppmhp.hr\/, while the selected author will be contacted personally via e-mail.
\nThe time of presentation of the projects will be in the period FROM OCTOBER 1 TO 15, 2022.<\/strong><\/p>\n

LOCATION OF THE PROGRAM
\nThe location of the projects is public spaces in Lipa. Lipa is a small town with about a hundred inhabitants, located 27 kilometers in the hinterland of the city of Rijeka, on the very border of Croatia and Slovenia. During the Second World War, the place was the scene of a Nazi crime against humanity, so today it is protected as a cultural asset in the category of memorial places. Accordingly, the proposed art projects must be temporary, reversible (removable) and non-invasive to the public space in which they intervene.<\/p>\n

NOTES FOR PROPOSERS:
\nOnly new, previously unrealized works can be proposed.
\nOnly one work can be submitted to the competition.

\nApplications without the required documentation will not be considered by the jury, considering them incomplete.
\nThe selected proponents are obliged to personally come to Lipa in the specified period for the purpose of production and presentation of the project.
\nThe fee per project is HRK 5,000.00 gross (regardless of whether it is an artistic collective or an individual artist). The maximum amount for the production of an individual project is HRK 5,000.00 gross.
\nThe organizer provides accommodation in Lipa.
\nThe organizer is unable to bear the travel expenses of the authors.<\/p>\n
