\ntitle: Silence on the Penalty Line

\norganizers: Croatian Sports Museum, Croatian Deaf Sports Federation, the Kinesiology Faculty of the University of Zagreb and the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka
\nopening: in the Atrium of the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka on 17 May 2022 at 12 p.m.

The Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka will observe International Museum Day 2022 with a multi-faceted, multi-day programme in which it shall endeavour to contribute to this year\u2019s theme, \u201cThe Power of Museums.\u201d One of this year\u2019s three subordinate themes is the power of community building, so we are presenting the guest exhibition \u201cSilence on the Penalty Line\u201d, organized by the Croatian Sports Museum, Croatian Deaf Sports Federation, the Kinesiology Faculty of the University of Zagreb and our Museum.
\nThe exhibition highlights the great successes recorded by the Croatian national deaf handball team through two units: the historical development of handball in the world and in Croatia and the establishment of schools for deaf children and the first sports clubs and handball sections for the deaf. The exhibits pertaining to the history of h\u00e1zen\u00e1 and handball in Croatia are on loan from the Croatian Sports Museum\u2019s Medals and Insignia Collection, Photograph Collection and Archival Materials Collection, while the items pertaining to the second unit were borrowed from the Croatian Deaf Sports Federation, as well as players and coaches from the Croatian national deaf handball team. The exhibition also portrays the history of the Croatian Sports Federation, which goes back to 1909, and then merges with the history of handball. The exhibition\u2019s inclusive character is further enhanced by its adaptation to the blind and seeing-impaired, who can immerse themselves in the history of Croatian deaf sports through audio-descriptions of texts, video materials and individual exhibits with the help of QR codes. In cooperation with the Croatian Library for the Blind, the catalogue has also been printed in Braille.<\/p>\n
