EXHIBITION<\/strong> The regions of Ko\u010devje, Kostel, Lo\u0161ki Potok and the Ribnica Valley lie in south-eastern Slovenia along the border with Croatia. A karst and wooded landscape, its infertile soil and severe climate have influenced the creation of today virtually extinct traditional crafts. EVENT<\/strong> The exhibition called \u201cThe Sea Connects\u201d is a part of the \u201cPeople of the Sea\u201d event programme organized through collaboration between the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka and the member associations of the Museum\u2019s Civic Museum Council (Primorje-Gorski Kotar County Association of the Deaf and Hearing Impaired, Stol Culture Association of Kraljevica, Vida Association for Assistance to Addicts, the Ajkula Homeland War Special Police Association and the Kombinat Creative Collective). EXHIBITION<\/strong> The exhibition \u201cThree Centuries of Shipbuilding in Kraljevica\u201d is the second in the \u201cPeople of the Sea\u201d series of events. It will highlight the almost three hundred year shipbuilding tradition in the Kraljevica shipyard.<\/p>\n As a part of this event and in collaboration with the Vida Association and the Kombinat Creative Collective, discursive and educational programmes for children and youth will be organized. The intention is to familiarize them with the medium of photography through a variety of creative activities, encouraging them to express themselves creatively and provide the foundation for visual literacy and potential ideas for future professional careers. \nThe residents of these regions, like those on the Croatian side of the Kupa River, generally eked out a living by selling home-made products, often from household to household. They sold so-called \u201cdry goods\u201d such as small woodwork articles, linen, broadcloth, pottery, various sundries, gaming pieces and even certain prohibited raw materials.
\nThe port in Bakar, and later in Rijeka as well, played a vital role here, as their proximity considerably influenced the economy of these regions. Peddlers (known locally as poku\u0107arci), particularly those from the Ko\u010devje area, sold their wares in these ports and, from the 18th century onward, also bought various fruits from southern climes and other materials and then re-sold them in the interior.
\nBesides \u201cdry goods,\u201d the exhibition will also feature 11 almost entirely non-existent crafts from these Slovenian regions: production of quicklime, shoes, and headwear from dormouse hides, milling, cartage, brick-making, broadcloth and shingle manufacturing, barrel-making, weaving and the work of craftsmen who maintained saws and who, in Croatia and Slovenia, were called \u017eagmojstri.
\nOn this occasion, we shall also symbolically present a part of our inventory made in Ribnica that could have been purchased at local fairs in the vicinity of Rijeka.
\nThe organization of this exhibition marks the continuation of successful collaboration between the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka with the Ko\u010devje Regional Museum, which began with the guest appearance of the exhibition \u201cMoj uo\u010da je \u0161iu za vurame: putovima vurmohara gornjega toka rijeke Kupe (On the Paths of Watch Peddlers Along the Kupa\u2019s Upper Course)\u201d in Rijeka in 2017.<\/p>\n

\nThe event\u2019s programmes will present various aspects and activities pertaining to life with the sea as practiced by the member associations of the Civic Museum Council and their beneficiaries. Even though these associations differ in terms of their activities and the needs of the beneficiaries for whom they care (deaf persons, war veterans, recovered addicts, amateur creators, heritage lovers), they share the maritime ambience in which they function, the common identity of the Littoral and the specific activities tied to the sea.
\nThe maritime activities of the members of the Ajkula Homeland War Special Police Association will be presented on a series of display boards.<\/p>\n
\nTHREE CENTURIES OF SHIPBUILDING IN KRALJEVICA<\/strong>

\nIn compliance with the instructions issued by the National Civil Protection Administration pertaining to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka has launched the work of its Miracle Room. Educational programmes are held outdoors on the terrace of eastern annex of the Governor\u2019s Palace, in front of the Miracle Room and in the gardens, weather permitting, and in the Marble Hall in case of inclement weather. Based on the criteria for maintaining physical distance, a maximum of 10 workshop participants may be in the Marble Hall of the Governor\u2019s Palace.<\/p>\n
\nEducational birthday workshops in the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka are aimed at children aged 4 to 12. The workshops are thematic, and the celebrants can choose from six available themes: \u2018Masquerade Ball,\u2019 \u2018The Trsat Dragon,\u2019 \u2018On-board Emergency,\u2019 \u2018Unusual Form,\u2019 \u2018Challenge Trail,\u2019 and \u2018Treasure Hunt.\u2019
\nThe programme will proceed in the Museum\u2019s premises and has been adapted to comply with recommendations for combating the spread of coronavirus infection.
