The Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka made the Decision on Temporary Organization of Operations of the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka in compliance with the prevailing measures instituted pursuant to the declaration of the COVID-19 epidemic.
\nPursuant to the Decision of the Republic of Croatia Civil Protection Directorate of 12 November 2021, admittance to the Museum is permitted only with presentation of the EU Digital COVID Certificate or other suitable evidence of vaccination, recovery or testing.
\nThe Museum has joined the campaign launched by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports and the Croatian Tourism Board, and obtained the \u201cSafe Stay in Croatia\u201d designation, which highlights it as a museum in which all health and safety protocols are enforced during the COVID-19 pandemic, making it a safe and desirable destination. Thanks to the \u201cSafe Stay in Croatia\u201d designation, the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka and its remote locations are safe places to visit.
\nThe Museum is also a partner with the Central State Demography and Youth Office of the Republic of Croatia in the IT programme e-Dje\u010dja kartica (children\u2019s e-card) and the mobile app Mudrica, which includes features for both parents and children when they visit the Museum. The app is free of charge, and it offers many benefits, such as free admission for children from a single family when the parents purchase tickets, a single admission pass for all three museum locations, free admission for parents whose children are participating in workshops and a 50 % discount on children\u2019s publications.
\nEvery Thursday, admission to all locations of the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka is free of charge.

\nThe exhibition in the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka may be toured until 5 January 2022.
\nA journey long dreamed by humanity commenced 500 years ago in Seville (Spain): the mythical Orient and the Spice Islands had to be reached by the until-then unexplored route westward across the Atlantic Ocean. The voyage, commanded by Ferdinand Magellan, began on 1519 and it was completed three years later, in 1522, by Juan Sebasti\u00e1n Elcano and the crew of the ship Victoria. It thus became the longest journey of that era and the first circumnavigation of the world. The exhibition chronologically describes the course of this undertaking: its organization and implementation and the unusual adventures that ensued, but besides dates, facts and figures, it reveals the human side of the sailors who dreamed of a previously unimaginable voyage, set off for the unknown, endured every peril and returned, thereby altering the course of history.
\nOf the five ships that set off from Seville on 10 August 1519, only one returned: the Nao Victoria, and out of the 245 crew members manning them, only 18 returned, which lucidly illustrates this exacting and arduous voyage. This heroic feat also proved once and for all that the world is round, that its diameter is much larger than had been believed, and that the immense Pacific Ocean, until then unknown to Europeans, stretched between the Americas and the Indian Ocean.
\nUsing written sources, the exhibition not only explains how the world was circumnavigated, but also describes the world as it was at the time and how its until then divided realities were first linked into a global whole.
\nSince it was first presented in Seville in 2019, the exhibition has toured various Spanish and world cities, and Dubrovnik was chosen for its first presentation in Croatia due to that city\u2019s many centuries of ties to the sea and seafaring.
\nAfter its opening in early September, transcripts of letters by two members of this bold expedition were found in the State Archives in Dubrovnik. One of them was previously not well known to the general public, but it is exceptionally important because it is the sole preserved copy of this letter in the world. Photographs of these letters were added to the display and they continued to travel with the exhibition in other Croatian cities: Zagreb, Split and Rijeka.

\nAHEAD OF CHRISTMAS \u2013 CHRISTMAS TRADITIONS THROUGH HISTORY<\/strong>
\nThe lecture will be delivered by Prof. Kosana Jovanovi\u0107, Ph.D., from the History Department at the University of Rijeka Faculty of Humanities

\nChristmas traditions entail various customs, religious practices, rituals and folklore tied to the celebration of one of the central Christian holidays. The lecture will present some of the Christmas traditions observed throughout the world that were altered and adapted depending on historical circumstances. From the pagan roots of Christmas traditions to explanations of why certain Christian saints became linked to the holiday, this lecture will provide insight into all of the ways in which we celebrate Christmas.
\nAs part of the Ahead of Christmas programme, the national folk dance and choral ensemble Lado will perform for the public. This is the continuation of successful cooperation behind the exhibition \u201cLado\/Reliefs\/Traces\u201d by Petra Slobodnjak that was installed in the Museum\u2019s Grand Atrium in 2019, when Lado marked its 70th anniversary. A workshop and concert will be held on the occasion of this nationally and internationally celebrated ensemble\u2019s visit.

\nThis workshop dealing with traditional musical instruments will be led by two of Lado\u2019s multi-instrumentalists, head of orchestra Alan Kanski and soloist Stjepan Ve\u010dkovi\u0107, who also builds traditional woodwind instruments. By highlighting the music and instruments used by the Lado ensemble, they will also present this segment of Croatia\u2019s rich heritage.

\nMusic and dance, especially in this holiday season, are the best way to get to know Croatian culture and traditions. Thanks to the virtually unbelievable variety of dances, song styles, valuable folk costumes and professional performances by artists who effortlessly transform from a dance ensemble to a folk choir, Lado\u2019s concerts have delighted audiences and expert critics throughout the world. The ensemble has been rated among the finest global folk groups, and it has received numerous awards and honours for its work.
\nOn this occasion, the artists of Lado, the sole professional folklore ensemble in Croatia, will present a part of the Croatian sacral heritage in the Museum\u2019s Marble Hall and evoke the proud history of Croatia\u2019s diverse regions through a repertoire of traditional Christmas songs.
\nThe programme will be held in compliance with the measures in effect since the declaration of the COVID-19 pandemic, and admittance will be allowed only with presentation of the EU Digital COVID Certificate or other suitable evidence of vaccination, recovery or testing in compliance with the Decision of the Republic of Croatia Civil Protection Directorate.
\nMIRACLE ROOM<\/strong>
\nIn compliance with the instructions issued by the National Civil Protection Administration pertaining to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka has launched the work of its Miracle Room. Educational programmes will be held outdoors on the terrace of eastern annex of the Governor\u2019s Palace, in front of the Miracle Room and in the gardens, weather permitting, and in the Marble Hall in case of inclement weather. Based on the criteria for maintaining physical distance, a maximum of 10 workshop participants may be in the Marble Hall of the Governor\u2019s Palace.
\nEducational programmes tied to the remote Museum locations will also be held in compliance with effective epidemiological measures, and any changes to the Museum\u2019s work with visitors will be posted on its web pages and reported by the media.

\nTo accompany the exhibition \u201cThe Longest Voyage \u2013 The First Journey Around the World\u201d in the Museum, a workshop about ships will be organized for the youngest visitors. Children will learn about the types of gear used by sailors of yore, the types of ships that sailed the seas and oceans discovering new, until then unknown places, how ships \u2018talked\u2019 to each other and the basis of our knowledge about seafaring in the past.
\nBIRTHDAY IN THE MUSEUM<\/strong>
\nEducational birthday workshops in the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka are aimed at children aged 4 to 12. The workshops are thematic, and the celebrants can choose from six available themes: \u2018Masquerade Ball,\u2019 \u2018The Trsat Dragon,\u2019 \u2018On-board Emergency,\u2019 \u2018Unusual Form,\u2019 \u2018Challenge Trail,\u2019 and \u2018Treasure Hunt.\u2019
\nThe programme will proceed in the Museum\u2019s premises and has been adapted to comply with recommendations for combating the spread of coronavirus infection.
