The Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka made the Decision on Temporary Organization of Operations of the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka in compliance with the prevailing measures instituted pursuant to the declaration of the COVID-19 epidemic.
\nThe Museum has joined the campaign launched by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports and the Croatian Tourism Board, and obtained the \u201cSafe Stay in Croatia\u201d designation, which highlights it as a museum in which all health and safety protocols are enforced during the COVID-19 pandemic, making it a safe and desirable destination. Thanks to the \u201cSafe Stay in Croatia\u201d designation, the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka and its remote locations, the Kastav Regional Museum Collection and the Lipa Remembers Memorial Centre are safe places to visit.
\nThe Museum is also a partner with the Central State Demography and Youth Office of the Republic of Croatia in the IT programme e-Dje\u010dja kartica (children\u2019s e-card) and the mobile app Mudrica, which includes features for both parents and children when they visit the Museum. The app is free of charge, and it offers many benefits, such as free admission for children from a single family when the parents purchase tickets, a single admission pass for all three museum locations, free admission for parents whose children are participating in workshops and a 50 % discount on children\u2019s publications.

\nWalt Disney, the American animation pioneer and owner of the Walt Disney Company, which he established with his brother Roy in 1923, is one of the most important figures of world cinematography. His feature-length animated films marked the childhood of many generations worldwide. Characters such as Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, Pluto, Scamp the puppy and others are recognized by children to this day, and they are constantly featured on clothing and other items of everyday use.
\nThe exhibition \u201cMickey Mouse Behind the Iron Curtain\u201d is a reminder of growing up with Disney\u2019s characters during the period of socialist Yugoslavia which, as opposed to certain other countries in Eastern Europe, had a license to reproduce Disney-themed toys, picture books and cartoons. The exhibition will present toys from the former Biserka factory in Zagreb, picture books, posters, books, video-cassettes, films and other items bearing Disney characters and motifs from the Toy Collection of the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka and the Peek&Poke Museum\u2019s collection. One of the most interesting items on display will be the \u2018Scamp\u2019 moped made by the Zagreb Motorcycle Factory.
\nThe worldwide success of Disney\u2019s company could not pass unnoticed by cartoon lovers everywhere, including those who lived behind the so-called Iron Curtain, even though Disney himself ardently opposed communism and allegedly would not allow his products to be licensed \u201cbehind the Iron Curtain.\u201d
\nThe exhibition will also highlight the Zagreb School of Animation from its establishment in 1954, when it was still directly under Disney\u2019s influence, to the creation of its own unique idiom which earned it global renown by the end of the 1950s. It created films that would delight the world with their originality, such as \u201cThe Ersatz\u201d by Du\u0161an Vukoti\u0107 from 1961, which in 1962 became the first cartoon outside of the United States to win an Oscar for best animated feature. But it also produced a series of popular cartoons that were part of the formative experience of growing up in \u201clate socialist Yugoslavia,\u201d such as \u201cBaltazar\u201d and \u201cThe Little Flying Bears\u201d. The Croatian Oscar statuette will also be on display at the exhibition.

\nThe theme of this guest exhibition from the Archaeological Museum in Zadar is burial customs in the Zadar area in Antiquity. Based on the results of an anthropological analysis of grave goods, the exhibition\u2019s author attempted to reconstruct the lives of the people whose graves are presented. Each grave tells its own story, and by observing each of its components, from burial rites to the deposited goods, and then using a little imagination, one can evoke memories of the deceased individual if only for a moment. Believing that the deceased went on to the afterlife, the bereaved prepared various gifts for them, from basics such as money to pay for the journey and lamps to light the way, to more luxurious items such as expensive jewellery. Their beauty is sufficient unto itself, but as part of a funerary set it helps revive memories of the deceased individual whose soul drifts in the shadowy beyond.
\nThe exhibition has been adapted to the blind and seeing impaired.

\nThe exhibition \u201cRijeka Roots, or How to Become a Citizen of Rijeka\u201d will present diplomas from the inventory of the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka and the State Archives in Rijeka that were issued by the Rijeka City Council from the 17th to 19th centuries. These diplomas conferred citizenship to persons born in Rijeka or to those who settled in Rijeka and earned citizenship through their works, contributions to the city and its citizens or by virtue of their wealth.
\nMIRACLE ROOM
\nIn compliance with the instructions issued by the National Civil Protection Administration pertaining to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka has launched the work of its Miracle Room. Until further notice, educational programmes will be held online and outdoors on the terrace of eastern annex of the Governor\u2019s Palace, in front of the Miracle Room and in the gardens, weather permitting.
\nEducational programmes tied to the remote Museum locations \u2013 the Kastav Regional Museum Collection and the Lipa Remembers Memorial Centre \u2013 will also be held in compliance with effective epidemiological measures.
\nAny changes to pandemic-related protective measures that will impact the Museum\u2019s work and its educational programmes will be posted on the Museum\u2019s web pages.
\nSUMMER VACATION IN THE MUSEUM, 2021
\nThis July as well, we are spending Summer Vacation in the Museum in the gardens of the Governor\u2019s Palace! During the summer holidays, the Miracle Room of the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka is organizing two children\u2019s creative workshops. You can register for both.
\nART WORKSHOP: \u201cI, GOVERNOR\u201d
\nThis year we\u2019re becoming genuine sculptors! At the \u201cI, Governor\u201d workshop, children will master clay modelling and papier-m\u00e2ch\u00e9 techniques and make their first real sculptures. Their creations will be displayed in an exhibition on the final day.
\nscheduled for: 12-16 July 2021 from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

\nThe workshop is intended for primary school children.
\nI\u2019LL TELL YOU A STORY
\nThe workshop is being organized to coincide with the guest exhibition of the same name from the Archaeological Museum in Zadar. At it, children will learn about ancient customs and beliefs. This is a special and quite significant workshop because it is adapted for blind persons and participants will have the opportunity to learn how blind individuals read and write, play games and much more!
\nscheduled for: 12-16 July 2021 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

\nThe workshop is intended for children aged 6 to 12. It has been adapted for blind and seeing-impaired children.

\nTHE FRANKOPANS
\nThe Frankopans were one of the most important and oldest Croatian noble families, who were tied by marriage to another powerful dynasty, the Zrinski family. They were originally from the island of Krk, whence they expanded their authority to the mainland under the service of Venetian, Hungarian and Habsburg lords, and at the peak of their power they held almost a third of today\u2019s Croatia. The most visible symbols of their authority and activity are the many castles and fortifications they erected on the island of Krk, and in Vinodol and Gorski Kotar on the mainland.
