The Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka made the Decision on Temporary Organization of Operations of the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka in compliance with the prevailing measures instituted pursuant to the declaration of the COVID-19 epidemic.
\nThe Museum has joined the campaign launched by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports and the Croatian Tourism Board, and obtained the \u201cSafe Stay in Croatia\u201d designation, which highlights it as a museum in which all health and safety protocols are enforced during the COVID-19 pandemic, making it a safe and desirable destination. Thanks to the \u201cSafe Stay in Croatia\u201d designation, the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka and its remote locations, the Kastav Regional Museum Collection and the Lipa Remembers Memorial Centre are safe places to visit.
\nThe Museum is also a partner with the Central State Demography and Youth Office of the Republic of Croatia in the IT programme e-Dje\u010dja kartica (children\u2019s e-card) and the mobile app Mudrica, which includes features for both parents and children when they visit the Museum. The app is free of charge, and it offers many benefits, such as free admission for children from a single family when the parents purchase tickets, a single admission pass for all three museum locations, free admission for parents whose children are participating in workshops and a 50% discount on children\u2019s publications.

\nAs part of the programme to mark the 350th anniversary of the execution of Peter Zrinski and Fran Krsto Frankopan in Wiener Neustadt in 1671, the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka is opening an exhibition, both physical and virtual, \u201cThe Frankopan Towns and Fortifications in the Territory of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County on Historical Photographs and Postcards.\u201d
\nThe Frankopani (Frankapani), as one of the most notable and oldest Croatian noble families, left behind much evidence of their activities, both movable and fixed cultural treasures. The most visible vestiges of their authority are the many castles and fortifications that they had constructed.
\nThanks to the project \u201cOn Frankopan Paths Culture and Tourism Route,\u201d we have linked roughly twenty well-known sites, particularly on the island of Krk and in Vinodol and Gorski Kotar, to this renowned family, even though it may be said that there is no place east of the Rje\u010dina, south of the Kupa and west of the Cetina River that does not speak of the Frankopans in some way.
\nA hundred years ago, Gjuro Szabo, one of the first Croatian museologists and conservators, wrote that \u201ceven mute stone has much to say, but it can only be understood by someone who makes the effort to understand its speech, while to everyone else stone just remains stone, and ruins a mere pile of stones.\u201d Therefore, using the visual materials from the Museum\u2019s collection of maps, designs, books, postcards, historical photographs and illustrations, we are presenting the Frankopan estates from the territory of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County and recalling their changes as recorded by the camera lens over the past one hundred years and preserved in numerous reproductions.
\nEven though the virtual presentation of museum materials has become an imperative of museum activities and communication with visitors over the past year, the original museum exponent could never be entirely replaced. So, hoping that circumstances will allow visits to the Museum, we set up the exhibition in our grand atrium which is now eagerly awaiting visitors.

\nThe educational programme is intended for elementary school children. Through online educational games, pupils will become familiar with the Frankopan dynasty, local history and historical customs. The themes of the games are:

\nPRESENTATION OF A PART OF THE DIGITAL INVENTORY OF THE MARITIME AND HISTORY MUSEUM OF THE CROATIAN LITTORAL RIJEKA

\nThe Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka gathers, safeguards, researches and exhibits museum materials from the territory of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County. In the 128 years of its existence, we have gathered approximately 60,000 exponents that are held in 47 collections.
\nWhen marking International Museum Day on 18 May 2021, for the first time the Museum will present its Digital Collection, a network site at which the wealth of materials it holds will be made available to the wider public. By taking advantage of cutting-edge technology and media and innovative interpretations of digitized museum materials and documents, the Digital Collection of the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka will attempt to reach the highest number of users and lovers of museum themes and content. Moreover, in this way we are attempting to bypass the current restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, and reduce the distance between the museum and its users. So everyone interested in experiencing the wealth and beauty of the items held in the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka will be able to do so in a single viewing, regardless of whether they are on exhibit in a permanent display or stored in one of the museum\u2019s depots. Previously we had only presented a part of our rich inventory, but our aim is to present it all by continually enriching it with new content and ongoing work to collate the materials that the Museum safeguards.

\nBORDERS \u2013 BETWEEN ORDER AND CHAOS
\nAs something of a signpost for the online exhibition \u201cBorders \u2013 Between Order and Chaos,\u201d an info-point was installed in the atrium of the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka which presents the ten primary themes covered by the exhibition. The concept of \u201cone theme \u2013 one exhibit\u201d served as a framework to present a complex exhibition about borders created as a part of the European Capital of Culture \u201cAge of Power\u201d programme, which may be viewed in the Museum until May 2021.

\nAs part of the programme for Rijeka 2020 \u2013 European Capital of Culture, the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka presented an online exhibition: \u201cBorders: Between Order and Chaos.\u201d The exhibition deals with the problem of borders \u2013 real ones, the ones we impose upon ourselves or those imposed by our environment, way of life, traditions\u2026 Even though they still exist when we pay them no mind, we believe that the \u201cnew normal\u201d caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has made many people aware of certain borders we had never thought about before.

\nThe exhibition observes the 150th anniversary of the birth of Dr Franjo Kresnik (1869-1943), one of the greatest Cremonese lutherie experts of his time. Kresnik dedicated over 40 years to the study of bowed string instruments, particularly those made in the workshops of Antonio Stradivari and Giuseppe Guarneri del Ges\u00f9.
\nA film was shot to accompany the exhibition \u201cViolins Beyond Borders\/Stradivari in Rijeka \u2013 Kresnik and Cremona.\u201d Antonio Stradivari, Guiseppe Guarneri del Ges\u00f9 and Franjo Kresnik have left behind instruments which are admired to this day, while generations have enjoyed the music that they make. This is why we are calling on everyone to enjoy the music and this film that recalls our great fellow citizen.

\nThe exhibition opened on 12 September 2019 to mark the one-hundredth anniversary of D\u2019Annunzio\u2019s occupation of Rijeka. The exhibition was set up as part of the permanent display on the first floor of the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka. It portrays the sixteen months of the dictatorship established in Rijeka by Gabriele D\u2019Annunzio, the Italian poet, soldier and nationalist, through the prism of women \u2013 in both the figurative and literal senses, through a cross-section of specific historical events and testimony and by presenting several works by Italian futurists which reflect the spirit of this era.
\nTo accompany the exhibition in the Museum, we have also provided our visitors with the possibility of virtual guidance through it.

\nAs part of the TEMPUS international project being conducted in three pilot regions in Italy and Croatia, the virtual exhibition Fluxes, dedicated to the ports of Rijeka, Ravenna and Solin, has been posted on the project’s web platform.

\nIn compliance with the instructions issued by the National Civil Protection Administration pertaining to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka has launched the work of its Miracle Room. Until further notice, educational programmes will be held online and outdoors on the terraces and eastern annex of the Governor\u2019s Palace, in front of the Miracle Room and in the gardens, weather permitting.

\nThe workshop is aimed at pupils from the fifth to eighth grades, and the topic is numismatics, an auxiliary historical science that deals with the study of minted coins as articles of historical, cultural and artistic significance. \nEach year an educational campaign is organized as part of International Museum Day observances. This year\u2019s Educational Museum Campaign in the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka will be marked by a cycle of extraordinary virtual strolls through the Museum. Just as the times and circumstances in which we find ourselves today are unusual, in this programme we shall familiarize children and adolescents with the unusual objects and stories from the Museum that they would never see during an ordinary visit.

\nThe exhibition will be set up in the Kastav Regional Museum Collection and below Voltica
\nThe First Assembly of Croats from Istria and the Kvarner islands was held on Sveti Mihovil Hill next to Kastav on 21 May 1871. Such assemblies were organized as part of the burgeoning ideas of the Croatian national awakening and Illyrian Movement which gained strength in the 1860s. At that time, the Istrian Croats, through an organized movement, began to bring their national ideas to life. At the First Istrian Assembly, they were supposed to discuss opposition to the merger of Istria, Gorizia and Trieste into a single province. The debate at the assembly was supposed to focus on the \u201cunification of Yugoslavians,\u201d the introduction of the national language to schools and public institutions, and the maritime orientation of the coastal regions. However the authorities banned discussion of these topics, so they could only deliberate on economic and developmental themes. The assembly was organized by distinguished persons from Kastav\u2019s political and social life: F. Steidle, A. Rube\u0161a, F. Marotti, E. Jelu\u0161i\u0107, F. Kralji\u0107, F. Sever, and J. Velikonja. The Istrian Assembly was one in a series of open-air national activist gatherings that were held in Slovenia and Istria in the 1870s. They were modelled after the Czech Assemblies (Tabori), and their well-known motto was \u201cSlo\u017eimo se!\u201d (\u2018Let\u2019s unite\u2019) based on the Czech \u201cZdru\u017eme se!\u201d
