The Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka, with the consent of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, made the Decision on Temporary Organization of Operations of the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka in compliance with the prevailing measures pursuant to the declaration of the COVID-19 epidemic which became effective on 15 June 2020.

\nWith the exhibition \u201cThe First Five Pieces of the First Civic Museum Collection in Croatia,\u201d the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka is presenting the acquisitions of the newly-formed Civic Museum Collection that became a part of the Museum\u2019s inventory based on suggestions and selections made by citizens.
\nBy establishing the Civic Museum Council (CMC) in January 2019, the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka became the first in Croatia to implement the practice of participatory museum management. Establishment of the CMC marked the beginning of democratization and spurred the process of adaptation to community needs, so that even the collection of materials began to be approached differently. By posing the question \u201cHow do you want our future generations to remember us?\u201d the Museum decided to share responsibility for selecting the heritage worth protecting in museums with the public.
\nThe items which citizens were called upon to propose comply with UNESCO and ICOM recommendations on the need for protection of the tangible and intangible heritage in museums. We asked our fellow citizens to document some segment of the intangible heritage \u2013 either by photograph or video\/audio recording \u2013 in their own environments: a custom, skill, song, dance, ritual, phenomenon, belief, knowledge or memory. Citizens thus became actively involved in the transformation of omnipresent spiritual creativity into new museum pieces preserved for the future.
\nBy means of digital platforms, citizens have proposed a total of 11 items to the Museum that have been endorsed by a total of 166 votes. The five nominations with the most votes were selected.
\nThe Museum will repeat this Public Invitation every year, and continue to create the new Civic Museum Collection in Croatia together with the public.
\nThis programme is being implemented within the framework of the European Social Fund project \u201cMuseum of the Future \u2013 the Civic Museum Council as the Model for Participatory Management\u201d (UP.04.2.1.04.0182) in cooperation with five partners: the \u017dmergo Association, the Kombinat Creative Collective, the Centre for Talented Children, the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County Association of the Blind and the City of Rijeka Retiree Association.<\/strong>
\nWORKSHOPS<\/strong>
\nAs part of the project \u201cMuseum of the Future \u2013 the Civic Museum Council as the Model for Participatory Management\u201d, educational workshops on the work of institutions in the field of culture with various groups of potential users will be held in the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka during September and October.
\nThe workshop on \u201cSpecific Aspects of Work with Sensitive Groups in Cultural Institutions\u201d will be led by Emil Mandari\u0107 from the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County Association of the Blind, the workshop on \u201cTalent \u2013 How to Recognize, Support and Nurture It\u201d will be led by Jasna Borbelj from the Rijeka Centre for Talented Children, while the workshop on \u201cWork with Youth and Volunteers in Cultural Institutions\u201d will be led by psychologist Goran Mi\u0161\u0107eni\u0107 from the \u017dmergo Association.
\nThe workshops are being co-financed by the European Union through the European Social Fund.

\nVIOLINS BEYOND BORDERS\/STRADIVARI IN RIJEKA \u2013 KRESNIK AND CREMONA<\/strong>

\nPart of the preliminary programme for the exhibition \u201cBorders \u2013 Between Order and Chaos\u201d includes the observance of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Dr Franjo Kresnik (1869-1943), one of the greatest Cremonese lutherie experts of his time. Kresnik dedicated over 40 years to the study of bowed string instruments, particularly those made in the workshops of Antonio Stradivari and Giuseppe Guarneri del Ges\u00f9. In his honour, instruments made by these two great luthiers were exhibited in the Museum from the opening date until 8 March 2020, after which they were returned to Cremona. The exhibition remains open to visitors and is conceptually identical, while the display has been enriched with materials from the inventory of the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka.
\nA film was shot to accompany the exhibition \u201cViolins Beyond Borders\/Stradivari in Rijeka \u2013 Kresnik and Cremona,\u201d a joint presentation of the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka and the Museo del Violino. Antonio Stradivari, Guiseppe Guarneri del Ges\u00f9 and Franjo Kresnik have left behind instruments which are admired to this day, while generations have enjoyed the music that they make. This is why we are calling on everyone to enjoy the music and this film that recalls our great fellow citizen.

\nThe exhibition is part of the European Capital of Culture 2020 programme The Age of Power, and it opened on 12 September 2019 to mark the one-hundredth anniversary of D\u2019Annunzio\u2019s occupation of Rijeka. The exhibition was set up as part of the permanent display on the first floor of the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka. The exhibition\u2019s creators decided to portray the sixteen months of the dictatorship established in Rijeka by Gabriele D\u2019Annunzio, the Italian poet, soldier and nationalist, through the prism of women \u2013 in both the figurative and literal senses, through a cross-section of specific historical events and testimony and by presenting several works by Italian futurists which reflect the spirit of this era.
\nTo accompany the exhibition in the Museum, we have also provided our visitors with the possibility of virtual guidance through it.

\nThrough maps, items of everyday use and personal stories, the exhibition provides an overview of events in the Kastav region between the two World Wars, but also focuses on the problem of the border between the Kingdom of Italy and the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, the loss of territory and the lives of Kastav residents next to the border.

\nThe performance \u201cToday is Tomorrow\u2019s Yesterday\u201d is part of the Lipa Remembers Memorial Centre\u2019s Recognizing Absence programme.
\nThis is a site-specific modern dance performance created in Lipa\u2019s public space by means of a unique operating method called Viewpoints. The composition of the performance\u2019s elements was created by conceiving of space, time, narrative, emotions, movements and forms within the limits of Lipa\u2019s location and history. Lipa\u2019s tangible and intangible heritage thus becomes a stimulating framework for artistic exploration, analysis and creation of a dance routine. Documentation of the entire creative process with a video recording of the performance will be a component of the exhibition set up in the Lipa Remembers Memorial Centre on the date of the premiere, and it will continue until 15 November 2020.
\nThe artistic programme Recognizing Absence is dedicated to remembering the 269 slain residents of Lipa and the permanent accent on the destructive consequences of war and the failure to observe fundamental human rights. For the fourth consecutive year, the programme has presented artists from different disciplines who always approach Lipa\u2019s dark past differently, creating new value and meaning.
\nThe Kabinet Arts Organization was established in Rijeka in 2008 and is active in the performing arts (with emphasis on dance), exploring the potential of interdisciplinary collaboration with the visual arts and new media. The organization\u2019s art director is Ivana Kalc, while its performers are Tina Peri\u0107, Tereza Koro\u0161ec, Sanda Hunjak, Kristina \u017duvela, Taj\u010di \u010cekada, Nika Krajnovi\u0107, \u017deljka Rup\u010di\u0107, Morena Scotti Andri\u0107, Tihana Nagli\u0107 and Darija Morosi.
