(Vodnjan)<br \/>\n<strong>exhibition conceived by: Tamara Mataija, Fausto Cacciatori, Tea Perin\u010di\u0107<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>opening: 6 December 2019 at 6 p.m. in the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka<\/strong><br \/>\nand<br \/>\nCONCERT<br \/>\n<strong>THE VIOLIN AND HARP IN THE EUROPEAN SALONS<\/strong><br \/>\nviolin: Marco Bronzi<br \/>\nharp: Davide Burani<br \/>\n<strong>the exhibition will remain open until February 2021<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>the Cremona violins may be viewed until 8 March 2020<\/strong><br \/>\nPart of the preliminary programme for the exhibition \u201cBorders \u2013 Between Order and Chaos\u201d includes the observance of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Dr. Franjo Kresnik (1869-1943), one of the greatest Cremonese lutherie experts of his time. Kresnik dedicated over 40 years to the study of bowed string instruments, particularly those made in the workshops of Antonio Stradivari and Giuseppe Guarneri del Ges\u00f9. In his honour, instruments made by these two great luthiers will be exhibited in the Museum.<br \/>\nFranjo Kresnik\u2019s musical heritage and work will be viewed through the context of the economic, political and social circumstances of that time. Kresnik\u2019s passion, his study of Italian, and particularly Cremonese, classical violins, and his later production of instruments in his own workshop surpassed the borders that politics had imposed on the place in which he lived. He played a crucial role in the events leading to establishment of the International School of Violin-making in Cremona, so that he was even called the school\u2019s corresponding director. He was a member of Akademija \u2013 a society of Croatian intellectuals \u2013 and a representative of the Italian Craftsmanship Association. He provided medical treatment to D\u2019Annunzio\u2019s Arditi and volunteered in the Banovina hospital in Su\u0161ak, showing in his life and work that he did not acknowledge borders, whether real or imaginary. His contemporaries described him as being Viennese by birth, a resident of Yugoslavia, but an Italian in spirit. But Franjo Kresnik, a denizen of Su\u0161ak and Rijeka, was a citizen of Europe whose activities bridged political borders and left an indelible mark on the preservation of Cremonese lutherie.<br \/>\nA part of the exhibition\u2019s opening ceremonies will be a concert, \u201cThe Violin and Harp in European Salons,\u201d at which the Stradivarius Lam 1734 violin (formerly of Scotland University) and the Prince Doria violin (1734) made by Guarneri del Ges\u00f9 will be played by Marco Bronzi. Tia is a girl from Rijeka. She has long hair and freckles on her nose, she is curious and playful and often you can see her exploring the city with her older brother Tin. Its streets and squares, palaces and parks\u2026 She imagines how it was, speculates about how it could be\u2026 She explores, questions, discovers\u2026 she is proud of her city, with its fascinating past and rich heritage, of which the Governor\u2019s Palace is a part. Not only is it a part of all that, the Governor\u2019s Palace is the loveliest palace in the city! For over one hundred and twenty years, it has looked down upon the city from on high, following all of the city\u2019s changes, and today the past, present and future all intermingle inside it. Although we may think we know everything about the Governor\u2019s Palace, each new step into this historical building\u2019s past reveals something new.<br \/>\nAnd that\u2019s why today Tia is inviting you to go on a little adventure \u2026 or a big one\u2026 we can\u2019t know that yet, can we? Because Tia has returned to the past, to the time when the Governor\u2019s Palace was centre stage for political, cultural and social life in the city.<br \/>\nAnd she\u2019s looking for company as she explores the intriguing past of the Palace, which even today attracts attention, but only reveals its secrets to the most persistent explorers\u2026<br \/>\nThe interactive children\u2019s guide, \u201cTia Travels Through 120 Years of the Governor\u2019s Palace,\u201d was first published in printed form in 2016 as a part of the project to observe the 120th anniversary of the Palace\u2019s construction. After the printed edition, the Museum took a step forward in the presentation and interpretation of the former governor\u2019s residence and presented this audioguide in the Croatian and English languages. As one of the contemporary forms of museum presentation and communication with visitors, audio guidance through the former Governor\u2019s Palace is primarily geared toward a younger audience: children who pass through the Palace\u2019s rooms while simultaneously receiving information about the Palace, what it was like to live there and the circumstances that led to its construction. Speaking to them, the little girl Tia leads them through the space and time described in the book, and interesting graphic symbols in the permanent display lead the way for visitors\/listeners.
