\nThe exhibition \u201cGoldwork in Eastern Croatia\u201d presents one of many traditional forms of embroidery in the territory of Slavonia, Baranja and Srijem called goldwork, or stitching with gold. The goldwork belongs to the group of the most expensive traditional embroidery. Its production and possession largely depended upon a family\u2019s financial means.
\nThe exhibition will feature various traditional items adorned by goldwork, which in terms of certain specific details and, above all, their value, represent yet another form of the skill of the \u0160okci women of Slavonia, Baranja and Srijem in creating and crafting ceremonial attire and other ceremonial items.
\nAlmost 150 individual items of various sizes and uses adorned by goldwork will be presented, as well as about a dozen complete sets of men\u2019s and women\u2019s attire also adorned by goldwork techniques, either by running stitch, couching on a paper frame or cross-stitch, gathered from a number of museums in Slavonia and from several family bequests.
\nThis embroidery skill, which is considered a symbol of Slavonia\u2019s identity, has been proclaimed an intangible cultural good of Croatia by decision of the Ministry of Culture, with the aim of continual care and support for the preservation of this invaluable craft.
\nThe staging of this exhibition in the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka is the fruit of cooperation between two museum institutions, which began with the guest appearance of \u201cThe Marketplace \u2013 The Belly of the City\u201d in \u017dupanja.

\nThe old paths, trails and roads of Vinodol are the theme of the exhibition \u201cIn the Web of Paths,\u201d which deals with the dense network of thoroughfares that intersect the littoral landscape. The exhibitions attempts to answer these questions: who built these routes and when, who used them, and where to they go? The exhibition\u2019s creators examined the old paths and roads that appeared in the period from the beginning of the 18th to the mid-19th century in the area from Drivenik to Bribir, with the adjacent coastal belt and hinterland.
\nThe main thoroughfares that functioned as the arteries of economic and social life during that period are highlighted in the exhibition. The exhibition takes a historical\/ethnographic approach to the topic, as just one of the possible ways of understanding historical road construction in Vinodol. Numerous maps, photographs and video materials are used to present this intriguing and oft-neglected civil engineering heritage.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
