Through this exhibition and the brief performance at the opening, the Lado Ensemble is continuing to mark the 70th anniversary of its artistic activities.<br \/>\nThe exhibition \u201cLado\/Reliefs\/Vestiges\u201d is the result of three-years of cooperation between this sole professional folklore ensemble and the award-winning, talented artist Petra Slobodnjak, who found in Lado\u2019s performers a source of inspiration to create photographs that testify to traditional performing arts at the very highest artistic level.<br \/>\n\u201cThe title \u2018Lado\/Reliefs\/Vestiges\u2019 encapsulates the complexity, multiple layers and intermingling of meanings entailed by folkloristic expression; it is divided into zones in an attempt to observe the traditional distinctions of folk music and dances by region. The photographs of performers are juxtaposed with landscape photographs of the places in which these dances originated,\u201d says exhibition creator Petra Slobodnjak.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-7607 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/ppmhp.hr\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/kolotur-1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 150px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 150\/150;\" \/><br \/>\nEXHIBITION<br \/>\nFROM A SMALL HARBOUR TO A TRANSOCEANIC PORT<br \/>\nconceived by: Nik\u0161a Mende\u0161<br \/>\norganizer: Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka<br \/>\nThe exhibition will run until 17 April 2019<br \/>\nWith the exhibition \u201cFrom a Small Harbour to Transoceanic Port,\u201d the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka is joining the observation of the 300th anniversary of the proclamation of Rijeka as a free port in 1719.<br \/>\nThrough several thematic units, the exhibition follows the development of this port by the city: from the Middle Ages and the events that preceded the conferral of free port status for Rijeka in 1719, through the reigns of Emperor Charles VI and Empress Maria Theresa and the first half of the 19th century, when the idea of constructing a new port west of the Rje\u010dina River emerged, to the most significant era in its history, the 1880s and 1890s.<br \/>\nFor centuries, Rijeka\u2019s main harbour for sailing vessels and smaller oar-propelled craft was the Rje\u010dina\u2019s estuary, today known as the \u2018Dead Channel,\u2019 but as of the latter half of the 19th century, the need to expand the port to a new location emerged. In this period, Rijeka\u2019s port experienced its peak in terms of technological fitness. This is an exhibition organized by art history students who are also members of the ARTeFACT Art History Students Club of the Rijeka Association of Art Historians.<br \/>\nAccompanying activities aimed at target groups were also conceived for the exhibition, such as art workshops for school children that will be implemented as a part of the Museum\u2019s Miracle Room, children\u2019s art workshops, and guided tours of the exhibition for secondary school students. An exhibition and publication entitled \u201cHow Lipa Remembers \u2013 75 Years of Commemorating the Tragedy\u201d will focus attention on the memorial heritage of Lipa over the past 75 years. The history of formal observation of the tragedy through the \u2018Lipa Remembers\u2019 commemoration will be presented, as will the accompanying commemorative programmes that formerly lasted for several days, with different community groups participating. Personal memories of the tragedy will also be presented as they are remembered by Lipa residents. The exhibition will feature photographs and documents, and individual testimonies (narratives) by Lipa natives.
