The governor\u2019s wife and her guests spent time there, bathed in the afternoon sunshine. It is not difficult to imagine these women\u2019s get-togethers \u2013 always the same, yet again so different\u2026<\/p>\n<p>But times change. In just over one hundred years it went from being the governor\u2019s residence, an architectural jewel that even today accents the urban appearance of our city and powerfully reflects the era of Rijeka\u2019s greatest economic, urban and cultural progress, to a museum \u2013 a place where the past, present and future intertwine more intensely than anywhere else in the city.<\/p>\n<p>Today the museum is recognized for its rich inventory and location in a majestic neo-Renaissance building, but also for its exhibitions, publishing and educational activities, which from year to year are attracting increasing numbers of those for whom the museum\u2019s programmes reveal pieces of their own past and history, those roots that always tie people to the place of their predecessors and their own childhood and formative years.<\/p>\n<p>Dedicating great attention to children, especially those of preschool and early primary school age, who sometimes first encounter concepts such as heritage in the museum, as well as spaces different from those in which they usually reside, their own past and the pasts of their parents and grandparents \u2013 the former garden gazebo has been conceived as a place geared to the youngest guests. And you can\u2019t go wrong because everything here is an invitation to play. The colours and paper installations, made by young artists Ivana Posti\u0107 and Matej Vo\u010danec, and the materials used to create <em>miracles<\/em> during creative workshops, at which \u2013 with play \u2013 the first steps into the rich and magical world of heritage are taken.<\/p>\n<p>And so, in just over a century, a place for crinoline and hushed conversations has become a boisterous, colourful and playful space in which children <em>have the last word<\/em>. There orangery is no more, and the gazebo is now the <strong>Miracle Room<\/strong>\u2026 \u2013 the Museum\u2019s workshop and playpen. A little factory of <em>miracles<\/em> in which games, imagination and reality intermingle and in which the mood is always merry\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Miracle Room\u2019s<\/strong> programmes have been conceived as museum workshops aimed at specific groups of children, and they imply focused communication, interaction and active involvement by each participant. At workshops, children <em>create<\/em> knowledge through mutual experiential learning. The activities have been thoughtfully formulated and organized for specific groups of children, and their implementation is aimed at encouraging a positive attitude as a powerful motivation for research and learning. Through play \u2013 the most successful method for constructing knowledge and ability \u2013 children discover their creative capabilities, develop their imaginations, emotions and dexterity, gain confidence in their own potential and create a positive self-image. They simultaneously develop verbal, cognitive and mnemonic skills, learn to behave socially and form bonds of friendship\u2026<\/p>\n<p>The feeling of satisfaction and success encourages self-confidence while curiosity equates learning with progress; feelings of empowerment and resolve, as well as the ability to interact and a readiness to cooperate and help others are fostered. It is not difficult to imagine these women\u2019s get-togethers \u2013 always [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":12199,"parent":0,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_et_pb_use_builder":"off","_et_pb_old_content":"\u2013 and when girls write the names of potential partners on pieces of paper \u2013 and then every day throw one away until Christmas when they reveal Mr. Right\u2026 the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka opened the doors of the Miracle Room. <a href=\"http:\/\/ppmhp.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/cudotvornica-2-1.jpg\"><img class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-3063\" style=\"border: 0px none; margin: 10px;\" src=\"http:\/\/ppmhp.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/cudotvornica-2-1.jpg\" alt=\"cudotvornica-2-1\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\"><\/a>The museum\u2019s workshop \u2013 the Miracle Room is a new area in the museum intended for teaching activities and the permanent display of the Collection of Toys and Games, and a part of the Park of Knowledge and Dreams project which includes the revitalisation of the park of the former Governor\u2019s Palace. The park has been conceived as a place in which visitors will be able to learn about the climate, history and mythology of this region in a relaxing atmosphere. The first step in the realisation of the Park of Knowledge and Dreams included the repair and arranging of the garden pavilion of the palace which is located in its eastern wing. In its original function the garden pavilion was a place for entertainment and to get in touch with nature, spending time here was supposed to provide comfort, relaxation, casual socialising and fun. The original functions have been retained with the project of vitalisation. The revitalisation means clearly formulated goals and, in accordance with them, the addition of new features in the old areas in order to ensure their sustainability. The basic goal of the revitalisation of the garden pavilion is to enable children a visit to the museum which coincides with their age. In this way they will have the chance to gradually establish themselves within the museum\u2019s audience with determined cultural needs and criteria. If their trip to the museum is pleasant they will lose the stigma of elitism which is very frequently connected with museum establishments. We will try to implement this with a selection of attractive features which will maintain authenticity i.e. to be based in historical facts. These are primarily themed museum workshops based on the experience of learning, at which children will through play and practical work become aware of parts of the local heritage. With the interior arrangement of the garden pavilion we have tried to create attractive surroundings for a visit, socialising and for play. In the design which was put together by Vesna Ro\u017eman, an installation by two young artists Ivana Posti\u0107 and Mateja Vo\u010danec has also been incorporated. The playful composition projects their vision of the world of flora and fauna which surrounds us (less and less!). Within in this kind of framework is incorporated the permanent display of the museum\u2019s Collection of Toys and Games presented through several themed units which give an insight into segments of childhood and growing up in the past, within the area of the museum\u2019s activities. The themed units are connected to materials in the collection: My favourite toy, When I grow up I will be a great\u2026, Social games and Games without frontiers\u2026 The objects are displayed in glass cabinets behind wooden doors which need to be opened in order to see the objects, and photographs and picture postcards are hidden behind peep holes. A visit will in this way represent a kind of exploration and enable one form of interaction. In this way of presenting the objects they will at the same time be protected from unfavourable microclimate conditions which create great amounts of light which penetrate through the window on the south side (IR and heat; UV filters have been placed on the glass). With the exhibiting of a small number of objects the central empty area is free in which the museums thematic workshops can take place. For children\u2019s birthday parties special kinds of thematic workshops can be organised conceived so that what they make also become gifts for the celebrating child at the same time.
