“MUSEUM WITH A HEART” CREATIVE HUMANITARIAN PROJECT

“Christmas is Coming” is a programme in which the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka and its associate institutions – the Rijeka Natural History Museum, the Rijeka City Museum, the Ivan Matetić Ronjgov Music School, the First Rijeka Croatian Classics Gymnasium and Andrija Mohorovičić Classics Gymnasium – enter the happiest and most colourful season of the year. Through various activities, such as educational and creative workshops, exhibitions and concerts, the Museum is joining all of those who, each in their own way, contribute to the beauty and joy of this singular time of year. And not just that. Participants have decided to mark the holiday season with humanitarian work, so they devised the creative humanitarian project “Museum with a Heart,” aimed at gathering financial assistance for the DIRA Rijeka Association for Assistance to Developmentally Impaired Children and the Promotion of Harmonic Development of Children and Youth.
MORNING IN THE MUSEUM
WORKSHOP

We have entered the happiest, most enchanting and – given the quantity of anticipated treats – sweetest month of the year. To spend even more time together, this month for Morning in the Museum we will spend two days together in the Museum’s Miracle Room!
Participants in creative workshops will get to know Rijeka’s loveliest palaces, and nothing less than mischievous elves will also attend the workshop to ensure that they don’t get bogged down in the historical details. They will turn Rijeka into a city of elves who will peer through the windows of palaces with colourful façades, glittering sequins and every imaginable Christmas decoration. The workshop participants will thus become architects and builders of “Yuletide Rijeka,” and their works will be displayed in an exhibition.
WORKSHOP
SYLVAN CHRISTMAS

As part of the educational programme “Miracle Room on the Road,” the creative workshop “Sylvan Christmas” will be held in schools near the Museum and our branch collection in Kastav. Our little participants will find interesting shapes and materials, and perhaps even holiday colours, in the forest! Using natural materials such as pinecones, wood, twigs, etc., they will make Christmas ornaments intended for charity sales. Everything is ready! Only good will, creative nimble fingers and maybe a few Christmas carols are all that is expected.
Everything produced in the workshops will be displayed in a charity sale exhibition.
WORKSHOP
WOOLLEN CHRISTMAS

The Museum’s Miracle Room is taking its educational content “on the road” for this occasion, to the Kantrida Home for the Elderly, where participants will make Christmas ornaments by dry felting sheep’s wool. They will set off for a care-free holiday atmosphere while spending quality time with others, hearing interesting stories and engaging in productive work.
All ornaments will be displayed in a charity sale exhibition.

The exhibition “Christmas Flash” marks the conclusion of the Museum’s workshops with creative participants big and small who contributed to the “Museum with a Heart” humanitarian project and made Christmas ornaments intended for sale at workshops in the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka, the Rijeka City Museum, the Natural History Museum and the Kantrida Home for the Elderly.
All sales proceeds are intended for our fellow citizens who are most in need: the DIRA Rijeka Association for Assistance to Developmentally Impaired Children and the Promotion of Harmonic Development of Children and Youth.
The exhibition of artworks made by participants in the “Elven Rijeka” workshop and the Little Museum Atelier led by art instructor Larisa Dragelj will be open at the same time. All of them have transformed Rijeka into a city of elves and put it on display in the exhibition. What our city would look like if it were taken over by elves can be seen in this intriguing, playful and imaginative exhibition.

This photographic exhibition features approximately thirty of Ireland’s most relevant archaeological monuments, landscapes and historical buildings that have been highlighted from the almost 12 thousand years of human habitation on the island.
MIRACLE ROOM
The workshops for young creators are held in the Miracle Room at the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka and in the Museum’s garden. Educational programmes are also being held at the remote collections.
PROGRAMME
BIRTHDAY IN THE MUSEUM
Educational birthday workshops in the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka are aimed at children aged 4 to 12. The workshops are thematic, and the celebrants can choose from six available themes: ‘Masquerade Ball,’ ‘The Trsat Dragon,’ ‘On-board Emergency,’ ‘Unusual Form,’ ‘Challenge Trail,’ and ‘Treasure Hunt.’
The programme will proceed in the Museum’s premises. Must be arranged in advance.
MIRACLE ROOM ON THE ROAD
Miracle Room on the Road is intended for children from distant schools, so that they can more easily participate in educational and creative programmes tied to the Museum’s inventory and content, as well as segments of the local cultural and historical heritage.
