EUROPEAN ARCHAEOLOGY DAYS
As before, this year our Museum is participating in European Archaeology Days from 17 to 19 June within the scope of the Mountain of Culture project. The lead organizer in Croatia is the Archaeological Museum in Zagreb, and the aim of this event is to foster greater knowledge of archaeology among the wider public.
So we invite you to participate in its interesting programmes.

17 June 2022 from 10 to 11 a.m.
Guided tour of the Museum’s Lapidarium and garden
Ranko Starac, archaeology curator in our Museum, will take visitors through the garden and Lapidarium and present stone monuments that date back to the time of ancient Tarsatica (Rijeka’s Old Town), as well as two gravestones from Aquileia. Two excavated segments of Roman-era architecture from Late Antiquity can also be seen in the Museum’s garden: the remains of a mausoleum from the necropolis next to Ciottina street and a wall from the bath complex in the area around Vela Crikva (Duomo) in the Old Town.
The tour is free of charge, but due to limited capacity participation must be arranged in advance at e-mail, info@ppmhp.hr, or by phone at +385 51 553666.

17 June 2022 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Little Archaeologists Workshop
In the Little Archaeologists workshop under the leadership of Iva Volović, participants will learn about archaeology and the profession of archaeologists. They will try their hand at excavating and recognizing artefacts and then documenting them. Through play and creative activities, they will learn how to approach archaeological finds and their journey from the dig site to the museum. Besides learning about archaeology, participants will play an old Roman board game.
The workshop is intended for preschool and primary school children, and reservations can be made at e-mail cudotvornica@ppmhp.hr or ph. no. +385 51 553666.

18 June 2022 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
MORNING IN THE MUSEUM
Workshop/playroom: Roman Everyday Life
An open workshop/playdate for children of all ages will be organized as part of the Morning in the Museum educational and creative programme. At the workshop, the Museum’s garden will become an ancient agora, while participants will become ancient Romans who will learn about the games and activities that filled their days in that long-past era. They will make some of the elements necessary for ancient games, such as astragalus, tria and many others. They will also attempt to decorate military shields, and be given the opportunity to try on a Roman soldier’s gear.
Participation may be arranged via e-mail cudotvornica@ppmhp.hr or by phone at +385 51 553666.

19 June 2022 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
