Women and some men wear kimonos in tourist hotspots, which serves as a tribute to tradition and a very nice contribution to creating the atmosphere of Japan for visitors. The Japanese have great respect for their rich tradition and culture that can take a lifetime to study. Over there you can feel order, the work ethic, safety, cleanliness, respect. It is customary not to tip servers because it could be offensive to them: it is a sign that everyone works for their (declared and taxed) wages as best they can and gives their best. It is a matter of honour.
