Every place is special. Japan is unusually diverse: Tokyo is unimaginably large, Kyoto is very traditional and tranquil, Osaka is modern and has a party feel. Kyoto impressed us the most primarily with its tranquillity and tradition. Our biggest shock came when we realized that Japan is not as expensive as we had assumed it would be. The food is excellent and even cheaper than back home, accommodation is also affordable. Everyone was kind and patient with us clumsy tourists. The only thing that really shocked us was the size of hotel rooms – they are simply tiny. Japan is unusually clean and that’s so wonderful. But on the other hand, having food or drinks while walking around is considered poor manners, which was a buzzkill on our sightseeing tour of the city and was perhaps the greatest clash of cultures we experienced in Japan.
