Japan is often called the Land of the Rising Sun or the Land at the End of the World (so vast, yet still small). Although it may be far from where our sailors were born or where they belong, from their and our Yugoslavia, it is not difficult for them to reach it. Japan is a country with a different people, culture and customs. Everything there is fascinating, and sailors are among those fortunate enough to have the opportunity to see and experience it. Here is a photograph of some of the young people from our ship in downtown Yokohama. This street, known as Motomachi, is well-known and traditional for its many shops where sailors spend the most money buying everything from paper fans to perfect musical instruments. After all, what kind of sailors would we be if we didn’t commemorate our hard-earned cash? That’s how it was and that’s how it shall always be.
Greetings to Jugolinija from the Far East from the entire crew of the Rijeka!
