If I were to live in Japan, I would choose Yokohama, but the places that impressed me most were the so-called Red Tunnel (Fushimi Inari Taisha) and Green Tunnel (the Arashiyama bamboo forest) in Kyoto. Also, as a mechanical engineer, I was blown away by their railway infrastructure, especially the Shinkansen: organization, punctuality, performance, speed, comfort, safety, maintenance and passenger statistics.
