The Textile Collection

Head: Msc. Ivana Šarić Žic, curator

The Textile Collection has been systematically assembled and is the most valuable in the department. The items are simple or luxurious, made for special occasions, of purchased or home woven cloth, leather or fur. The collection primarily consists of women’s and men’s clothing, with some pieces children’s wear.
It includes the following clothing items: stomanja, shirt, kaban, kotiga, kamižot, modrna and brageše. The clothing items are complemented with numerous accessories such as facoli, ribbons, kalcete, barete, traverse, cendaline, rubi and belts. Particularly interesting are the colourful travjerse from Susak, made of various materials such as silk and decorated with ribbons and embroidery. There are heavy winter skirts made of fur which originate from the island of Krk. There are also several pieces of linen, such as ponjava, koperta and intimeli.
