The Early Modern Age Collection

The Early Modern Age Collection consists of archaeological material which has been collected from archaeological and hydro-archaeological research by the museum from the middle of the last century to the present day and is constantly being updated with new research. The material belongs to the period of the beginning of the 15th century to the end of the 18th century, it completes the image of the life of the people in the Early Modern Age in our region and it speaks of the economic and political life and contacts and links with the surrounding area. According to the revision of 2012 101 items belong to this collection inventoried in the computer M++ database (48 items inventoried in the Medieval Collection, and 53 in the Hydro-Archaeological Collection) and a large amount of non-inventoried items which are located in the museum’s storeroom. The material has been collected from archaeological investigations in localities in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County: Stari Grad in Rijeka, Bakar – Kaštel, Klana – Gradina, Krk – Omišalj, Cres – Osor, Mali Lošinj – Čikat, Glavotok – Mala Jana and others. These are items of everyday life made of ceramic, glass, metal and bone and the greater part of glazed pottery tableware. The material is located in the museum’s storeroom, with reviewing appropriate measures of preventive protection are implemented, according to the priority of conservation-restoration procedures.
