Age: elementary school
Duration: 2 school hours
Contact: Andrea 051/213 578 or cudotvornica[at]ppmhp.hr

The workshop deals with the links of tangible and intangible heritage. In the workshop children become familiar with the part of everyday life in the past which relates to entertainment and recreation. The starting point for the workshop are museum objects – the counters used in board games found at an archaeological locality on Krk – Sepen, and they date from the 1st – 2nd century. Participants will make several boards for games which have survived to modern times in some modified form, and to get to know the rules for playing them and also try to play them. Participants will be able to take home the boards that they make.

  1. Part: a tour of the part of the museum’s display which consists of toys and games
  2. Part: making a base board and learning the rules for the games which were popular in the ancient times
  3. Part: tournament

The workshop deals with intangible heritage using the example of a game which today in this region is known under the name of “cip-cop” (in English “hopscotch”). The pupils will get to know about the creation of the game in the past and the way it has been brought into the present time as well as its variations. The workshop can be adapted for children of various ages, and consists of four parts:

  1. Part: drawing of the game’s outline and the comparison with outlines from other parts of the world
  2. Part: the symbolic meaning of the game in the past
  3. Part: playing games that are assumed to have preceded this one
  4. Part: playing “cip-cop” with two different outlines
